How to Winterize Your Home
Winter is almost upon us, so we've compiled a list of five suggestions to protect your property this season.
1. Clean the gutters. Make sure your gutters are in good shape and are cleaned out. Leaves can create blockage and prevent ice and snow from melting and draining properly.
2. Protect your pipes. Add insulation to pipes that may freeze. When the temperature drops below 32°F, consider keeping a stream of water running through a few pipes.
3. Seal the cracks. Use caulk or weather stripping around doors, windows or any other area that may allow cold air in.
4. Set your thermostat. Keep the internal temperature of your home between 65°-68°F.
5. Bring the outside in. It's a good idea to find a warmer, protected area for any outdoor plants, furniture, grills and anything else that could be damaged by winter weather conditions.
